Highly sought-after drummer John “Lil’ John” Roberts thrives is the industry’s ultimate heartbeat. The Philadelphia native emerged as a noted child prodigy—playing alongside Christian McBride and Joey Defranceso at the age 16 in the Duke Ellington Orchestra (created and directed by Wynton Marsalis).
John went on to study for two years at renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston under a full scholarship. He began his touring career with DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince (Will Smith). Upon moving to Atlanta, he quickly began recording and touring with Dionne Farris, Monica, The Goodie MOB, and more. Filling in on request for Jonathan Moffet, John began performing with Janet Jackson at 23, and toured with her for two decades.
His acclaimed work with George Howard made John a top contender in Contemporary Jazz circuits, working with the great George Duke, Rachelle Ferrell, George Benson and more.

In 2019, John teamed with fellow Berklee alum, bassist Richie Goods, for an album dedicated to the great Mulgrew Miller, My Left Hand Man, supported by an international tour.
